Understanding Evil

Student of Al Huda
Say, “Not equal are the evil and the good, although the abundance of evil might impress you.” So fear Allāh, O you of understanding, that you may be successful. [Al Maidah:100]
What it is that Allah (swt) wants to understand in this verse? He wants us to see that doing evil and doing good can never be on the same scale for the two are different. We are attracted to evil in abundance but we should not consist on doing what is not only good for our self but our deen. We do not realize that abundance of bad attracts us but when we are in a group of people what are we doing? Laughing and talking about someone, making comments about those who are doing something for the deen, lying and making excuses and all of this counts as what is bad. It is a reminder for all of us that we should not persist upon what will take us away from salvation.
