And they resented them not except because they believed in Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy, [Al Burooj:8]
Surah Al Burooj narrates the story of the people of the ditch who were persecuted for their beliefs in Allah. The only reason they were thrown into the ditches of fire was because they refused to turn away from Allah’s deen. These ayahs came in perfect sync with the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) situation, where the Muslims in Makkah were being severely persecuted by the pagans. The Muslims were reassured that previous nations had also faced difficulty but they were rewarded for their efforts. Nowadays Muslims are also harshly mistreated just for their beliefs, either verbally or physically. What we must do is face it with patience and tolerance and hope for the best reward from Allah.
