Surah Al Jumuah V.1-11

A Donkeys Load
The example of those who were entrusted with the Torah and then did not take it on is like that of a donkey who carries volumes [of books]. Wretched is the example of the people who deny the signs of Allāh. And Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people. [Al Jumuah:5]
This example made me feel weak on the inside. If someone was to call us a donkey we would take it very personal and to be degrading. However, if we have the book and don’t take it on we are like donkeys. Today we have the Qur’an but many of us are not acting on it and those of us who have it are stingy in passing it on. Just like that donkey it does not know what it is carrying, to it diamonds and planks of wood are the same. We should think about this verse carefully- we would not want to be called a donkey.
