Mutual Loss and Gain
The Day He will assemble you for the Day of Assembly – that is the Day of Deprivation. And whoever believes in Allāh and does righteousness – He will remove from him his misdeeds and admit him to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment. [At Taghabun:9]
The Arabic word ‘Taghabun’ which is translated here as deprivation means to be in mutual loss and gain. So the day of deprivation [Day of Judgment] will be one where people will be losing something and others will be gaining. Those who did wrong to others will be losing their deeds and the one who they did wrong to will be gaining their good deeds. In this way there will be an exchange between all those who were wronged. It scares me that I am doing good deeds but it might be that on that day these deeds will rightfully belong to someone else who I did wrong to. It has motivated me all the more to be a lot more careful about my actions and dealings with others.
