Free of Need

If you disbelieve – indeed, Allāh is Free from need of you. And He does not approve for His servants disbelief. And if you are grateful, He approves it for you; and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you about what you used to do. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts. [Az Zumar:7]
Today I was speaking with someone who said something that made me understand this verse more clearly. They said that when they were praying and in the position of prostration they began thinking. Allah does not need this prostration from me. This prostration will not benefit anyone except for myself. If all acts of worship benefit us why are we so turned away from doing what is beneficial?
