A Donkeys Voice

And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys.” [Luqman:19]
Anytime I hear this verse I try to imagine myself being surrounded with donkeys all of them who are making noise. This sound even just while imagining it is too unbearable and this thought can only last for a minute or so. In this verse a person who speaks loud is being compared to having the voice of a donkey. Yet it is so common that people will shout and scream in their everyday speech. A Muslim is one who does not cause harm to others and this includes in their general actions also. Allah(swt) is trying to preserve our honor by commanding us to speak in a manner that doesn’t attract the wrong kinds of attention, now we should be the ones who adhere.
