Cause Of Corruption

Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness]. [Ar Rum: 41]
The lesson that I learnt from this verse was that corruption is widespread today and this is due to the negative actions of mankind. We are being shown a small part of what our actions are earning for us near Allah (swt). If this is what our actions are doing for us in this world then what is there to return to in the hereafter? It scares me to think that we will have to answer to Allah (swt) about our evil deeds. Allah (swt) is showing us by the negative consequence that now is our chance to turn in repentance and go back to being righteous.
