Gratitude

So [Solomon] smiled, amused at her speech, and said, “My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to do righteousness of which You approve. And admit me by Your mercy into [the ranks of] Your righteous servants.” [An Naml:19]
In class we were discussing this verse and I could not help but feel dumfounded. Most of the time we are not even grateful and we hardly ever ask Allah (swt) to give us the ability to be grateful. From this it shows that only those who wish to be grateful will be shown different ways of doing so.
