And We did not destroy any city except that it had warners [Al Shuara: 208]
How many times have we heard the statement “If I had been around at the time of the Prophet (saw) I would have also been just like the companions.” I myself have heard this plenty of times and we use this as an excuse not to follow the religion. However, this verse goes against our belief. The prophet (saw) came as our warner and we can not use this excuse not to do our job.
