First Hand Account- Glamorous Life

Below is the story of one of the girls who became a teenage mother, for this reflection she will take the name of Paula.
Paula was 17 years old when she became pregnant with her boyfriends child. They had been dating for two months and at that time she felt that they would be together until marriage. Once she became pregnant she did not want to get an abortion and upon informing her boyfriend he promised to remain with her.
When she reached her 5th month he left her without any notice going against his promise of assistance. Left alone and with her parents wanting her to move out she began working two jobs. One in Mc Donalds and a second one in a clothes store earning a little above minimum wage. She worked all throughout her pregnancy and shortly after giving birth had to move out due to the discomfort her parents felt. She had just graduated from high school and so can only keep jobs that give little of minimum salary. Once her daughter became 4 months she began working again in order to keep up with all the bills and says she must rely on others for her daughters well being. Many times her daughter is left with her friends or anyone who is willing to take care of her.
“Prior to giving birth I only ever saw the glamorous part of having a child. Everyone made it seem like it was something very easy and I did not think about the severity of my actions. I have realized how much hard work it is and I understand why people want to wait for marriage when they are in stable relationships. It is difficult for me to keep up with my studies, work and my daughter all at the same time and with little support. I am dependant on others and am always looking for someone to help me out in some way or other. Honestly if you ask me now, I would wait until taking such a big step.”
