But he called her from below her, “Do not grieve; your Lord has provided beneath you a stream.
And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates. [Maryam: 24-25]
The story of Maryam (as) was one of the most beautiful stories I have read. I tried to picture myself in her place. At the time when a woman gives birth it is a very intense feeling and takes up a lot of that woman’s energy.
It felt so relaxing and calming that at the time immediately after having given birth Maryam (as) is told that there is a stream that Allah (swt) has made for her. Not only is there a stream but Allah (swt) tells her to shake the date palm tree so dates will fall on her and she can eat them.
A very important lesson I learnt for myself from these verses is that we always have to work to get something done. Maryam (as) has just given birth and instead of Allah (swt) saying that He will drop the dates for her He tells her to shake the tree. We must never give up or feel that we are in a state in which we can not put in more effort. Even at such a hard time Maryam (as) had to put in the work to see the outcome so how do we expect to be given something without having worked for it?
