Al Israa V.23-39

And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], “uff,” and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. [Al Israa:23]
The word “uff” looks small but carries a really big meaning. It means the dirt that is under the nails, dirt that is on the hands, earwax and is an expression of disgust and dislike. How much do we value our parents? Think about all those times we have referred to them as the dirt under our nails of which we get a disgusting feeling. Is this the true worth we have placed on our parents? Allah (swt) has shown us that we do not have the right to say anything to them which may hurt them and it is so beautiful to think that there is so much love and protection for the parents.
