Obeying the People

Student of Al Huda
And if you obey most of those upon the earth, they will mislead you from the way of Allāh. They follow not except assumption, and they are not but falsifying.
Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who strays from His way, and He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided. [Al An’aam:116-117]

When you ponder upon these two verses and actually think in depth about what you are being told it is very clear to see that if we disregard the book of Allah and His commandments then we will be in fact following people, who mostly lead a person astray. A very common example of how we follow people is if they tell us to go somewhere where there is something which Islam does not permit we get up and go so as not to displease people. In these small acts we are following a person which is leads us more astray each time.
