The “if” Statements
Medihah Hussain (Group Ruqayyah)
How many times do we involve ourselves with either the “if” questions of the “if” comments. Today in class I was thinking about how many times we make statements such as “If you had stayed with me you would not have gotten into trouble..”
We make these statements all the time but today I was shocked to hear it was something common in the hypocrites who stayed back home and did not go to fight in the battle of Uhud.
O you who have believed, do not be like those who disbelieved and said about their brothers when they traveled through the land or went out to fight, “If they had been with us, they would not have died or have been killed,” so Allāh makes that [misconception] a regret within their hearts. And it is Allāh who gives life and causes death, and Allāh is Seeing of what you do. [Ale Imran:156]
In this verse we see that this statement becomes a reason for their regret and so we should also be careful when we make such statements. I don’t know about anyone else but I became scared that the statements that I sometimes make are the same ones that the hypocrites made.
