Fatima (Al Huda Student)
The last verses of Surah Al Baqarah are truly beautiful verses and they contain the key to having Imaan. If you believe in everything mentioned in verse 285 then you believe but if you do not believe in even one then that imaan is wasted.
The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allāh and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.” [Al Baqarah:285]
We are also taught a supplication in the last verse of this surah:
“Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.” [Al Baqarah:286]
It is such a beautiful dua, we are asking Allah to not take us to account if we had forgotten something or we made an error. We are also asking to not be burdened like the previous people. For example the Jews, they had to go through the Sabbath every week where they could do no worldly work. The dua ends beautifully acknowledging that Allah is our protector. Allah has taught us everything we need to know.
