Surah Al Baqarah V.229-233

Breastfeeding is for two years.

Fatima (Al Huda Student)
A woman is able to breast feed her child for up to two years of that childs life. During this time it is the responsibility of the male to provide for the mother. This maintenance includes the necessities that are required for a person such as clothing and food. This does not mean lavish trips to foreign countries and new suvs. The reason for this is mentioned in the verse:
No person is charged with more than his capacity. No mother should be harmed through her child, and no father through his child. [Al Baqarah:233]
The father should not be burdened because of the child in having to pay for extravagance in the mothers life and the mother should not be burdened with anything beyond her limit.
And upon the [father’s] heir is [a duty] like that [of the father]. And if they both desire weaning through mutual consent from both of them and consultation, there is no blame upon either of them. And if you wish to have your children nursed by a substitute, there is no blame upon you as long as you give payment according to what is acceptable. And fear Allāh and know that Allāh is Seeing of what you do. [Al Baqarah:233]
If the father dies then the heir of the father will provide the maintenance until the given time is over but if they both want to wean then they are allowed. They may also desire to have their child nursed as long as they pay that person accordingly. This part of the verse shows the beauty of marriage, even after the divorce the communication should be just and not screaming and shouting at one another. If this is the interaction outside of the marriage then inside a marriage how must the interaction of a husband and wife be in Islam?

This ayah is beautiful for me because I think Allah swt does not but make it easy on the believers to follow Islam. Ours is a simple yet beautiful religion the religion of Islam. We really need to know the rights of men and women in our deen to really make it easy upon us its guidance.
In todays fast paced world sometimes even getting married is considered a burden .Man starts to think if he could afford the marraige and the bride, and then after marraige its always the question of whether one should have children and if so can we afford. But for those who believe and who put their trust in Allah verily makes it easier for them ,and Allah tells us –
No person is charged with more than his capacity. No mother should be harmed through her child, and no father through his child. [Al Baqarah:233]
Therfore We need to put our entire trust in Allah and make duas to him,Because “Allah, there is no God except him,the Ever Living ,the Sustainer of all that exists”. [Al Baqarah:255]
So, let us make it easy upon ourselves a deen that is easy and beautiful,The deen of Allah and the deen of all our messengers..the deen of Islam..the deen of moderation, consideration, respect, honour, sincerity, dignityand of prace and love.
