Disobedient Fishing

Student of Al Huda
And you had already known about those who transgressed among you concerning the sabbath, and We said to them, “Be apes, despised.”[Al Baqarah:65]
Bani Israel were made to refrain from worldly work for one day each week, this was so that they would focus on their worship of Allah(swt). The day was known as the Sabbath, however, they transgressed the limits and did not follow the commands. This was not uncommon amongst Bani Israel as they had problems doing as Allah asked of them.
There were some people in Bani Israel who put out their fishing nets Friday night so that all of Saturday fish would be caught and they thought this was okay as they weren’t actually going to do the work themselves. They were able to deceive people but how can one deceive Allah?
Due to this they were punished and turned into apes, despised. They could not follow the commands of Allah and they contiuouly transgressed although Allah had blessed them and favored them. What I learnt from the example of Bani Israel is to not question things but rather do as Allah asks, only He knows what is good and bad for us.
