Al Shuara V.192-227

Warners

And We did not destroy any city except that it had warners [Al Shuara: 208]
How many times have we heard the statement “If I had been around at the time of the Prophet (saw) I would have also been just like the companions.” I myself have heard this plenty of times and we use this as an excuse not to follow the religion. However, this verse goes against our belief. The prophet (saw) came as our warner and we can not use this excuse not to do our job.

Al Shuara V.141-191

Detestable

Do you approach males among the worlds
And leave what your Lord has created for you as mates? But you are a people transgressing.” [Al Shuara: 165-166]

Homosexuality is an act that is despised by Allah (swt) but unfortunately has become fine tuned into our society. In class today we were discussing how it is the mother’s responsibility that her children are kept away from believing such acts are okay. In our schools today our children are taught that homosexuality is an acceptable act and we should at least understand those that are involved in it. As Muslims we have to stand up for our rights and make sure that we screen the information being transferred to our kids.

Al Shuara V.105-140

Limited Time

And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? [Al Shuara:129]
An important lesson to learn from this verse is that we as humans are only alive for a set amount of time. No matter what we have right now it will not be with us once we die. Once our life is over everything that we ever owned will become useless to us so what is it that we place as being first? Our things or our actions?

Al Shuara V.69-104

Questioning Religion

When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” [Al Shuara:70]
An important dawah technique to be learnt from Ibrahim (as) is to question others about what they worship. We are usually afraid to touch the topic of religion with others but a good way to begin dawah is to find out what they worship.

Al Shuara V.1-68

Signs Of God

Did they not look at the earth – how much We have produced therein from every noble kind? [Al Shuara:7]
The most common question that people put forth when you talk to them about Allah (Swt) is that if he actually exists why are there no miracles or signs? In this verse is the answer for those people, can these people not see the vegetation and nature that is around us. All of this is a living miracle that points to the existence of Allah (swt).

Utmost Striving

In todays lesson we read the story of Musa (as). Pharaoh asked Musa (as) who Allah is. Musa (as) goes on to tell him about Allah (swt). When Pharaoh starts ridiculing and mocking Musa(as) he does not give up the opportunity of giving dawah. He carries on talking about his Lord. How many of us can say we would do the same in that situation? Most of us would ridicule back. It is amazing the way Musa (as) strives utmost yet most of us fail to do so.

Al Furqan V.63-77

Gentle Walk
And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace, [Al Furqan: 63]
I was taken aback when I read this verse as it made me think that if we really are servants of Allah (swt) our actions will automatically follow through with our verbal acceptance. If we are claiming to be Muslim the way we will be able to tell is by seeing whether or not our actions are showing this belief.

It is very common that we run down the stairs or stomp around or drag our feet when we walk. This is a characteristic that is not present in those who are truly slaves of Allah (swt). The reason why it is such a big thing is because we are walking reflections of the Qur’an. If we are dragging our feet around behind ourselves what image will we be giving of those who learn the deen? We should always remember that our characteristics are also critical in passing on the message of Islam.

Passing Dignified
And [they are] those who do not testify to falsehood, and when they pass near ill speech, they pass by with dignity. [Al Furqan:72]
One of the qualities of the servants of Allah (swt) is that they do not testify to falsehood nor do they witness ill speech except with dignity. This verse clearly shows that something that is needed to be a servant to Allah (swt) is to not be present wherever falsehood is being spread and nor sit in gatherings where people are lying or slandering. If we want to truly be servants we have to be dignified and walk past all that goes against the principles of Islam.

No Need For Us
Say, “What would my Lord care for you if not for your supplication?” For you [disbelievers] have denied, so your denial is going to be adherent. [Al Furqan:77]
Most of the time when we are praying to Allah (Swt) we think that we are doing Him a favor. However, we are the only people who benefit from this worship. Allah (swt) does not need us to worship Him, it does not add or decrease any of His dominion.
