Al Hijr V.51-99

Nation Of Lut (as)

And the people of the city came rejoicing. [Al Hijr: 67]
I felt extremely uneasy today in class when the story of Lot (as) was mentioned. His people were participating in homosexuality and due to this the angel came to Lot (as) to inform him the punishment was to come. It was horrible to hear that they would come running and rejoicing anytime they heard that there was a man in the town. They would try to have sexual relations and even rape them in a group. This really made me quease as I could not believe this was the level of humanity in that society. It is true that wherever there is corruption there can not be the belief in Allah (swt).

Raining Clay

And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay. [Al Hijr:74]
If you have seen pottery you know what hard clay is like now imagine that this hard clay is falling on you from the sky. The punishment was so severe that the city was turned upside down. The chaos must have been extreme. I keep trying to imagine the pain of having one stone of hard clay fall upon you let alone a rain of them. Today we are doing the same things that the nation of Lot (as) was doing so how can we expect to be safe from the punishment?

Quran Is Eternal

Do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of the disbelievers, and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing to the believers [Al Hijr:88]
The first thing that we see is we should not keep looking towards the adornment that others have been given. These worldly things are temporary but as for the Qur’an it is eternal and there is nothing that can be worth more than it. The next thing in the verse is to not grieve over the people as again this is only the world. One important thing is to lower your wing for the believers. Many times we are harsh with the believers but by saying lowering you wing it means show them kindness and mercy.

Praise and Prostrate

So exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate [to Him].
And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (death). [Al Hijr: 98-99]

Whenever we are in a situation when we are trying to call someone to Islam and they do not listen or we are ridiculed due to our religion we become angry and start arguing with that person. However, we should not behave like this. In fact Allah (swt) gives us something to do that is better than shouting and arguining or debating. This is to praise Allah (swt) and prostrate to Him and worship Him until death. Instead of wasting physical energy on useless things Allah (swt) gives us something positive to do.

Al Hijr V.1-50

Wish For Islam

Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims. [Hijr:2]
I was working with a girl who was not Muslim and everyday at work we would be talking but as soon as my alarm would go off for prayer I would get up to pray. Whenever I would come back from praying she would ask me what I did and commented that my face seemed to be brighter. Later she started telling me about some problems she had and asked me if I understood. I explained that in my religion there is no room to sit and dwell over all the trials you have been put in and instead we always look ahead to what is to come next from Allah. She told me that she was envious of how secure and peaceful I was at heart. It is something that comes naturally being a Muslim as everything in the religion revolves around acts that give a person tranquility.

Affect of Magic

And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend,
They would say, “Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic.” [Al Hijr:14-15]

How scary it is to think that some people are so deep in disbelief that they do not see the truth right in front of their eyes. Instead Allah (swt) says that even if the door of the heaven was opened they would claim it is magic. I found this strange because to me it is very clear this is the truth so I began to think how far gone they must have been in their disbelief.

The way in which it says that they are a people afflicted by magic reminded me of something that we did in high school. We were told to put on these glasses that made everything on the outside look like what a drunk person would see. I remember when I put those glasses on everything around me began to blur and I could not make out one thing from the next. Everyone looked like big blobs around me and when I was asked to walk in a straight line I thought I was but I ended up on the completely other side of the hallway. We do not think we are drunk in our daily lives but there are many who are in this state towards the truth.

Providers

And We have made for you therein means of living and [for] those for whom you are not providers. [Hijr:20]
Imagine ants and spiders, cows and goat, sheep and bulls or any other living thing you can think of other than humans. Everything has been placed on the earth for us by Allah (swt) and we do not even have to provide for these things. Isn’t it amazing that they benefit us but we do nothing for them in return. Allah (swt) is the one that provides for them. How many of us provide the ants with food? How many of us create grass for cows to graze? It is all from Allah (swt) and yet we find it hard to be grateful.

Arrogant Mud

And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud. [Al Hijr:26]
I would like you to picture something. You are walking in a field and all of a sudden some black mud jumps up and starts telling you to move out of its space. It starts telling you how good it is and how you are below it. What would you think at that moment? You would just rolls your eyes and say “You are only some mud, you are nothing special.” Right? Well then what gives us as humans the right to boast because we are also originally from this mud that we consider to be useless. Next time you are about to boast remember where you came from.

Hardworking Satan

[Iblees] said, “My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all. [Al Hijr:39]
Satan is very hardworking. It is clear from the way that he is talking that he has determination to carry out his promise and in fact we are living proof that he is working harder than ever. Everyday he does what he was unable to the day before. Everyday he is ready and energized for work. He has never taken a day off work until today and here we are always too lazy to do anything. We must keep in mind that satan will not spare anyone and we should protect ourselves. Will you answer the call of Allah or Satan?
