Ibrahim V.1-17

At the end of todays class the recitation of the verses was played in a different way than usual. As the verses were very touching the emotions increased as a recitation in different Qira’aat was played.

Purpose of Qur’an
Alif, Lām, Rā. [This is] a Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muúammad], that you might bring mankind out of darknesses into the light by permission of their Lord – to the path of the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy – [Ibrahim:1]
Allah (swt) tells us the purpose of the Qur’an and why it is important for us to tell others about it. The reason it was revealed was so that people could be taken out of the darkness’s and brought into the light. Darkness’s here refers to doubt and shirk. Sometimes people are muslim but they feel a doubt about something and the Qur’an is the only thing that can have an effect on them. This is why I realized it is so important that we pass on the message to others otherwise they may remain in darkness forever.

 I love life

Student of Al Huda
The ones who prefer the worldly life over the Hereafter and avert [people] from the way of Allāh, seeking to make it (seem) deviant. Those are in extreme error. [Ibrahim:3]
Today the strangest thing happened to me while I was in class. Yesterday I had been thinking about death and then I thought to myself to stop talking because it was such a depressing thought and I did not want to die yet. Today in class when we came to this verse and I read that people who prefer the worldly life are in extreme error I realized the reason I had not wanted to think about death was because I was too busy enjoying what is in this world. We are sucked in easily but how is it that we can get out of the circle?

Gratitude and Increase

And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.’ ” [Ibrahim:7]
When are given something by people how do we react? Upon receiving a gift that we really life do we just shrug our shoulder or do we verbalise and through our actions show our appreciation? Of course we let it be known that we are grateful. This is to people but how grateful are we towards Allah (swt). If our ears, eyes, features, souls, air etc was taken away how would we feel? Yet we are not grateful for these things but when given a small gift like a ring by people we act as though our existence is dependant on these people.

Free of Need

And Moses said, “If you should disbelieve, you and whoever is on the earth entirely – indeed, Allāh is Free of need and Praiseworthy.” [Ibrahim:8]
Today I was talking to someone very dear to myself who said something to me that really made me think. She told me that when she was praying and she was in ruku and in sujood she was thinking that Allah (swt) is so free of want. He does not need my ruku and he does not need my sujood. The reason that we pray and do good is for ourselves because we need the reward and it does not do anything to Allah (swt). He is not increased nor decreased in stature it is our degrees that change depending on what we do.

Pus and Blood

Before him is Hell, and he will be given a drink of purulent water.
He will gulp it but will hardly [be able to] swallow it. And death will come to him from everywhere, but he is not to die. And before him is a massive punishment. [Ibrahim: 16-17]
The ending verses of today’s class were extremely scary. An eeiry silence covered the classroom as everyone reflected over them. It was describing the drink and state of those in hellfire because they denied their messenger. The purulent water they will drink will be of pus and blood and they will attempt to drink it but will not be able to swallow it. When this word that described the drink of pus and blood was mentioned in class many people began to make faces at the thought of it. It is not a very attractive drink and to think that this is all that will be provided is a scary thought.

 Saba Naz (Group Fatima)
We always point the fingers to others but what about ourselves? We also deny our messenger when we know that he has said something but purposefully we decide to do something that contradicts his sunnah. The punishment for this is drink of blood and pus. These people will be as though they are at the final stages of death but they will never die. Imagine the agony and pain, sometimes when someone is very ill people say to let them go as they are in so much pain and it should be taken away now so they can finally rest. Imagine if a dying person was in that state forever. It would feel as though they will drop down but the hereafter is eternal so how can they die?

 Medihah Hussain (Group Ruqayyah)
I imagined myself today in the hellfire and how it would feel to be going through such a severe punishment. I thought of the heat and how much thirst a person would feel. In the summer we usually run home to drink some cold water to calm down the thirst we feel but amidst that heat all there will be to drink is a boiling drink of pus and blood. It is bad enough that the drink will be hot but it will also include things that are not exactly the most taste bud friendly. It is something that is so hard for us to imagine but we can definitely get a vip ticket to this punishment if we continue with our relaxed attitude about sunnah. “Oh it is just sunnah, we don’t have to do it.” This attitude must change for us to change our destination.
