Surah Al Baqarah V.253-260

Reflecting: Ayat Ul Kursi

Student of Al Huda
For home work I was given the task to reflect on Aytul Kursi. On the way to work I listened to the recitation on my mp3 player. I was feeling quite low this morning and I don’t know why. I’m sure you have all experienced that feeling when you feel empty and numb sometimes for no apparent reason. It was a busy time in the morning with every body going to work and I had aytul kursi being recited in my ears. As I sat on the bus I reflected on what I had learned and although I could not fully understand the arabic I certainly felt it. I knew who Allah was: Hayyul Qayyuum the ever living, the one who sustains and he protects all that exists. I felt an overwhelming feeling in my heart. I felt a connection because I knew that Allah (swt) right there at that moment knew exactly how I was feeling. He knows what happens to his creation at all times. Allah knew how I was feeling at that very moment and I got such comfort from this. By the time I got off the bus I was smiling because I did not feel that numb lonely feeling anymore and I’m still smiling Allhumdulillah.

Ayat Ul Kursi

Medihah Hussain (Group Ruqayyah)
Below is a video we watched regarding ayat ul kursi. The video really helped to make everyone realize why it is such an important verse. We listened to the verse many times, over and over again. This was so that we truly realize the majesty of Allah (swt). We read this verse a lot in our prayers etc but do we truly know what we are saying? If not then why not? Subhanallah! The way I felt during class today was enlightened because I felt like I had read ayat ul Kursi for the first time ever.

Power of God

Fasiha Memon (Group Aisha)
Have you not considered the one who argued with Abraham about his Lord [merely] because Allāh had given him kingship? When Abraham said, “My Lord is the one who gives life and causes death,” he said, “I give life and cause death.” Abraham said, “Indeed, Allāh brings up the sun from the east, so bring it up from the west.” So the disbeliever was overwhelmed [by astonishment], and Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people. [Al Baqarah: 258]
We are all too acquainted with the people who like to deny the existence of God. Many of them say they are the highest being that there is living. However, when someone said that he gives life and death (hinting he has the powers of Allah) Ibrahim (as) said Allah (swt) brings the sun from the east so bring it from the west. From this we see the smart tactic of Ibrahim (as). He could have started to argue with the man and say that he does not give life nor death but instead he moved onto the next point. At this point the non believer was dumbfounded. (more…)

Resurrection

Student of Al Huda
Or [consider such an example] as the one who passed by a township which had fallen into ruin. He said, “How will Allāh bring this to life after its death?” So Allāh caused him to die for a hundred years; then He revived him. He said, “How long have you remained?” The man said, “I have remained a day or part of a day.” He said, “Rather, you have remained one hundred years. Look at your food and your drink; it has not changed with time. And look at your donkey; and We will make you a sign for the people. And look at the bones [of this donkey] – how We raise them and then We cover them with flesh.” And when it became clear to him, he said, “I know that Allāh is over all things competent.” [Al Baqarah:259]
We say we know that Allah is the all mighty but how much do we really know? When we walk past lands that are fallen down or where some type of disaster has struck what do we think of first? This verse gives the example of someone who saw a fallen down town and thought about how Allah would be able to bring it back to life. When we see lands that have been completely destroyed do we think about how Allah (swt) will put it together again? Because this man asked how Allah would bring back to life something that is dead Allah gave him death for 100 years. (more…)

And [mention] when Abraham said, “My Lord, show me how You give life to the dead.” [Allāh] said, “Have you not believed?” He said, “Yes, but [I ask] only that my heart may be satisfied.” [Allāh] said, “Take four birds and commit them to yourself. Then [after slaughtering them] put on each hill a portion of them; then call them – they will come [flying] to you in haste. And know that Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.” [Al Baqarah: 260]
Although most Muslims today claim to believe in resurrection there remains a percent who still have a doubt about it. This verse clarifies any doubts that there could be about the hereafter and that everyone will be bought to life after death. As we see Ibrahim (as) wanted to know how Allah would bring to life the dead and Allah told him what to do and he would show him that he could raise the dead. (more…)
